Midas is a sconce for the moment of returning home.
Midas is designed to be hung near a door. It casts a welcoming glow into the room when you return your keys to its tray. It creates a ritual that relieves the primal concern of entering a dark space.
The slight bend is inspired by the motion of a cracked door, redirecting light revealing the contents of a room.
The tray has an embedded touch sensor and lifted edge.
The bent shade lightly shields the bulb in profile.
Tray Sensor + keys = light on
The touch-sensitive tray has a subtly lifted edge to encourage the placement of limited small items.
Midas originated from the tension experienced when opening a door into a dark room. I was inspired by the moment of emerging light, and how it creates relief and casts away doubt.
